NOVEMBER UPDATE
November 19, 2018 in children’s stories, Childrens Book, Eastern and Asian Folklore, Eastern European Folklore, fables, Fairy Tales, Fiction, Folk Tales and Folklore, Folklore, legends, Moral Tales, Princes and Princesses, Russian Fairy and Folk Tales, WW1, Yound Adult Fiction | Leave a comment
We have just passed the mid-point of November and our top four books are racing away from the rest. The top four books are:
MAORI FOLKLORE – 23 Maori Myths and Legends
Download link: https://goo.gl/DYYtzS
Collated and translated by Sir George Grey, Governor of New Zealand from November 1845 – January 1854 and again from December 1861 – February 1868. You will find legends and stories like: The Children Of Heaven And Earth, The Legend Of Maui, The Legend Of Tawhaki, Rupe’s Ascent Into Heaven, Kae’s Theft Of The Whale and many, many other Polynesian myths.
SCOTTISH FAIRY AND FOLK TALES – – 85 Scottish Children’s Stories
Download link: https://goo.gl/JS11f2
Compiled by Sir George Douglas, contains not just fairytales but also tales of kelpies, brownies, stories of animals – foxes, crows, frogs and stories of mermen and comic tales as well.
MY OWN STORY – THE EMMELINE PANKHURST STORY
Download link: https://goo.gl/ygzgsA
Of note was the fact that the closing paragraphs of this book were written in the late summer of 1914, when the armies of every great power in Europe called upon their citizens, and the citizens of their colonies, to mobilised for savage, unsparing, barbarous warfare against one another, against small and unaggressive nations, against helpless women and children, and against civilisation itself.
“There can be no real peace in the world until woman, the mother half of the human family, are given liberty in the councils of the world” – Emmeline Pankhurst.
OLD PETER’S RUSSIAN TALES
Download link: https://goo.gl/B7ASZh
20 illustrated Russian folk and fairy tales retold for young people and the young at heart. The tales are a good sampling of Slavic folklore. The stories in this book are those that Russian peasants tell their children and each other.
Possibly of more importance and with a degree of irony and poignancy to the reader is that most of these stories were recorded in Russia in camps, and at the side of the road, from soldiers as the Russian Imperial Army marched to the front to engage the Germans during WWI.
At this point we would like to thank you for your patronage and support.

We have created a dedicated area for the digitised illustrated works of Andrew Lang. In the main these consist of the Many Coloured Fairy Books plus his other illustrated works.
Of note are the Arabian Nights Entertainments – containing 32 tales from the 1001 Arabian Nights. These were selected and compiled by Andrew Lang and detail heroic figures such as Aladdin, Ali Baba, Sinbad, and others, whose luck and ingenuity carry them through perilous adventures.
Like the Grimm brothers, Andrew Lang collected fairytales from around the world. Where necessary he and his wife translated and retold them in English.
The publisher Longmans, Green and company, now a part of the Pearson publishing empire, teamed Lang up with illustrator H. J. Ford, and what a partnership it was. It was so good that during the late Victorian era the works by Andrew Lang outsold those created by the Grimms.
So, you’re invited to download and enjoy.
All eBooks only US1.99 or about £1.50, €1.70, A$2.69, NZ$2.93, INR137.01, ZAR26.99 depending on the rates of exchange.

June’s sales figures are now in. Halfway through the month we saw how the Football world cup had taken some of the focus off Hawaii, but a late rally saw Hawaiian & Polynesian themed folktale reassert themselves.
Our top four bestselling books for June were:

ISBN: 9788828325000
MAORI FOLKLORE – 23 Maori Myths and Legends

As we approach month end, it would seem that sales of “OLD PETER’S RUSSIAN TALES” have stolen a march on “HAWAIIAN FOLK TALES”
Once again, it is amazing to see how the dominant news stories are driving sales of folklore books. This has occurred as the Kilauea Volcano activity has become less sensational and the Football World Cup in Russia takes off. What’s next I wonder?
The top four this month, and which are unlikely to change are:
OLD PETER’S RUSSIAN TALES
HAWAIIAN FOLK TALES
JUST SO STORIES by Rudyard Kipling, author of THE JUNGLE BOOK
FOLKLORE AND FAIRYTALES FROM BURMA
